“Jeff the Shark Co-Creator Advocates for Marvel Opponents Gamers to Embrace Growth Amidst Intense Competition”

Jeff the Shark is undoubtedly the cutest and most exasperating character in Marvel Rivals, and the comic book creator who helped bring him to life has no remorse for those he targets.

Kelly Thompson, who co-created Jeff the Shark with illustrator Daniele di Nicuolo, shared some insight for Marvel Rivals players who find themselves frustrated by being devoured by Jeff. In a conversation with Polygon, she humorously advised players to “git gud,” indeed.

“What some call annoying,” Thompson remarked with a laugh, “I consider a skill issue.”

I genuinely need to take a moment to emphasize how delightful it is that Thompson seems far enough removed from online gaming toxicity that she refers to it as a “skill issue,” evidently fortunate enough not to have spent considerable time in gaming chat rooms.

“I believe they should improve their gameplay,” Thompson further stated. “Sounds like a skill problem to me if my boy is defeating you every night. I mean, come on, he has an incredibly strong ultimate; just accept it and find your inner peace about it. Every character has strengths and weaknesses, right?”

Jeff the Shark made his debut in comics back in 2018 as part of Thompson and Nicuolo’s West Coast Avengers series, where he was the team’s mascot. He made multiple appearances in Marvel comics thereafter, eventually landing his own comic titled It’s Jeff, which launched in 2021. Now, due to his popularity, or rather notoriety, in Marvel Rivals, he has been officially introduced to the MCU, and we are all thrilled about it.
