The Seattle-based studio Jar of Sparks has halted development on its inaugural project while searching for a new publisher.

In a statement shared on LinkedIn, founder and CEO Jerry Hook indicated that team members would likely be “pursuing new prospects” as the studio seeks a publishing partner “capable of helping realize [its] creative aspirations.”

“Throughout this journey, our dedicated, enthusiastic, and forward-thinking team took courageous risks and challenged limits, aiming to produce something genuinely novel and thrilling for the industry,” wrote Hook.

“As we gear up for this next phase, our skilled team members will be investigating new possibilities.”

It remains uncertain how many employees were affected by this decision.

In a different post on LinkedIn, Hook emphasized that the studio would be “working over the upcoming weeks to help all of [its] team find new opportunities” as the project comes to an end.

Jar of Sparks was launched in 2022 as an internal studio for NetEase, headed by Hook. He was joined by creative director Paul Crocker, executive producer Greg Stone, and gameplay designers.
