Jackbox Games has existed in various forms over the past three decades due to its engaging party games, such as You Don’t Know Jack. Now, Jackbox’s collection of game titles is transitioning to smart TVs, thanks to the new Jackbox app.
According to Jackbox Games’ official announcement, the app is the result of a collaboration with Amazon Web Services and GameLift Streams, which will utilize cloud technology to launch Jackbox’s games on smart TVs and other platforms.
While the announcement did not specify any particular titles that will be available, it does indicate that the Jackbox app “will provide a limited selection of ad-supported games for free.” The company suggested that it aims to eventually offer the entire catalog of Jackbox Games titles as a subscription service but did not disclose any details regarding pricing or a timeline for its availability. Jackbox also hinted that the app could expand to additional platforms if it receives a favorable response.
In a humorous note, Jackbox mentioned that the app could theoretically be used on a smartwatch, but quickly added that “gathering around your watch for a game of Fibbage is incredibly silly.” The beta version of the Jackbox app is expected to be available on smart TV platforms soon.
