Itch.io recognized the new category “ensures that purchasers are informed about the sources of the content they are acquiring.”

Itch.io now mandates that creators indicate if their projects incorporate generative AI.

In a submission, Itch.io clarified that a new concept known as “generative AI disclosure” encourages developers to specify which elements of their projects utilize generative AI, including visuals, audio, text, dialogue, and coding.

Games that identify the use of generative AI may be tagged with an “AI Generated” label, in addition to further tags explaining which components utilize AI, such as “AI Generated Graphics” or “AI Generated Sounds.” Games without AI may be marked as “No AI.”

Itch.io acknowledged the new category “ensures that purchasers are informed about the sources of the content they are acquiring.”

Developers will have a “grace period” during which they can take the time to “refresh their page.”
