Take-Two Interactive CEO Strauss Zelnick has shared his opinions on AI, labeling the emergence of artificial intelligence “an oxymoron.” He added that while there’s “no doubt that what is viewed as AI today will enhance our industry’s efficiency,” it “won’t diminish employment” throughout the gaming sector.

As reported by our affiliated site, GamesIndustry.biz, Zelnick was open about his stance on AI, although he acknowledged that “the video game industry will likely be at the forefront, if not the cutting edge, of AI utilization.”

“Machine learning, machines do not acquire knowledge,” Zelnick remarked when he was asked by an investor to express his opinion on AI’s role within the industry.

“These are just simple ways to explain to people what seems like sorcery. Ultimately, these are digital tools, and we have now utilized digital tools endlessly. I have no doubt that what is perceived as AI today will help us make our business more efficient and assist us in achieving better outcomes; however, it won’t eliminate jobs.

“On the contrary, the history of digital technology demonstrates that it creates employment, boosts productivity, and increases GDP. I believe that is what will occur with AI. I anticipate that the video game sector will be at the forefront, if not on the cutting edge, of AI application.”

However, regarding limitations, Zelnick emphasized that it was crucial for AI to “not infringe on others’ intellectual property through the appropriation of their LLMs,” and added: “Yeah. We’re not going to do that.”

“Furthermore, if we did, we wouldn’t be able to safeguard that; we wouldn’t be able to protect our own IP,” he elaborated. “Thus, of course, we’re cautious about what technology we utilize to ensure that it respects other people’s intellectual property while allowing us to protect our own. Beyond that, I really can’t envision any additional restrictions that need to be put in place.”

Moreover, Rockstar Games‘ highly anticipated Grand Theft Auto 6 is still scheduled to release this “fall,” publisher Take-Two Interactive reaffirmed, despite concerns.
