Developer MachineGames has released a second update for Indiana Jones and the Great Circle: a patch that effectively resolves an issue with the whip functionality for the adventurous archaeologist. This is one of several glitches addressed, alongside problems with double-vision effects after nearly drowning and frame rate stuttering during cutscenes.

The second update–posted on Bethesda’s website–aims to fix an issue where Dr. Jones was unable to equip his whip. The patch for Indiana Jones and the Great Circle also introduces “enhancements to global illumination on Xbox.” Overall, shadows appear even better, resulting in image quality feeling less washed out. MachineGames has also highlighted that it resolved an issue on PC where global illumination could be disabled due to “playing with below-minimum VRAM graphics cards.”

Last week marked the release of the first update for Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, introducing path tracing on PC for selected Nvidia cards. MachineGames is working on implementing this feature (akin to enhanced ray tracing) for AMD cards in the future, but it is not included in this second update.

Meanwhile, Harrison Ford appeared at The Game Awards and lavished praise on Troy Baker and Todd Howard for their contributions to Indiana Jones and the Great Circle. For those unfamiliar, Ford portrays Jones in five feature films based on the character. Lucasfilm seems eager about creating more Indiana Jones games in the future, although it wants to finalize this one and its forthcoming DLC first.

For additional details, check out GameSpot’s Indiana Jones and the Great Circle review. It is also one of GameSpot’s top 10 most exciting games of 2024. Below, you can find the complete patch notes for the second update:

GENERAL

  • Resolved an issue where players might have reported the Game Slot as being malfunctioning, or it could appear to be completely missing, even when no genuine issue had occurred.

GAMEPLAY

  • Fixed a problem where the player was unable to equip Indy’s whip.
  • Corrected a glitch where a player could end up with Indy’s camera permanently equipped.
  • Addressed a bug where the player might fall and lose their camera if they used the quick-equip (“key item”) prompt to equip their camera while inspecting another nearby pickup item.

GRAPHICS

  • Fix to prevent the “Double vision” effect from getting stuck on screen when Indy has nearly drowned. For players who have already experienced this issue, repeating the near-drowning sequence should resolve it.
  • Additional enhancements to eliminate “ghosting” from duplicated frames during cutscenes.

MISSIONS AND QUESTS – PLEASE NOTE THIS SECTION CONTAINS SOME MINOR SPOILERS

  • Addressed a problem where Gina could not access the main entrance to the Vatican Love Chamber, preventing the mission from continuing.
  • Fixed a glitch where Gina could attempt to pick the lock to the exit from the Vatican Love Chamber as soon as you enter the room, which means you might miss some crucial story events.
  • Resolved a significant gap in the ground collision around the perimeter of the wall surrounding the Ziggurat in Sukhothai that players could fall through.

PC SPECIFIC FIXES

  • Fixed an issue where Nvidia DLSS could cause performance problems when enabled.
  • Corrected a glitch where Nvidia Frame Generation wasn’t activated properly if HDR is in use.
  • Addressed a problem where Nvidia Low Latency Mode could lead to performance issues when used with Frame Generation.
  • Resolved an issue where global illumination could be completely turned off when playing with below minimum VRAM graphics cards.
  • Fixed a problem where lighting could be overly bright in indoor spaces if Ray Tracing (Full Ray Tracing) is set to Medium or High Quality.
  • Known Issue: Nvidia Frame Generation may be briefly disabled if HDR is activated for the first time. To work around this issue, disable and then re-enable DLSS. This only needs to be done once.

XBOX-SPECIFIC FIXES

  • Enhancements to Global Illumination on Xbox, to rectify issues where shadowed areas appeared brighter than anticipated.

ADDITIONAL NOTES

  • Streamers may have experienced crashes in the game when using OBS Studio software to record video. Updating OBS Studio to version 31.0.0 should prevent these crashes from happening. Visit https://obsproject.com/ to update to the latest version.
