Carter Lipscomb, a veteran video game developer at Iron Galaxy and Sony Interactive Entertainment (SIE), has departed. The specifics regarding the cause of death were not revealed; however, VentureBeat noted his history of cardiovascular issues.

His family shared a message from him on his Facebook page, stating he “‘fell out’ for the final time, even though I was healthy and everything was going smoothly. I suppose it was my moment to leave. Thankfully, I was fortunate to have my family close.”

“Whether you recognized me as ‘Doctor Business,’ ‘The Boss of the Special Sauce,’ or simply a ‘brother from another mother,’ I sincerely valued every moment we’ve experienced together and each laugh we’ve shared,” he expressed. “Because of all of you, I’ve been privileged to embark on this journey with you!”

Lipscomb began his professional journey in quality assurance at Maxis in 1990 on SimEarth: The Living Planet. Following additional QA roles, he became a marketing director at GameTek in 1994. One of his most prominent positions was at SIE in 2007, where he worked as PR director for PlayStation’s platforms and offerings until 2018. He subsequently joined Iron Galaxy as its business development expert (or “Doctor Business”).

After news of Lipscomb’s passing, numerous developers commemorated him, including former Iron Galaxy CEO Adam Boyes. “I cherished him immensely, and we were all privileged to have crossed paths with him and for him to have enriched our lives,” remarked Boyes. “R.I.P., brother!”

“We lost a brother today,” posted former SIE head Shawn Layden. “The finest among us. A light so radiant that our eyes may never adjust to the darkness. Godspeed, Carter. Save us a seat. We shall toast again.”

In a message to VentureBeat, developer Tammy McDonald reflected on Lipscomb as “the glue for our weekly Covid cocktail gatherings. He consistently made an effort to support me when Matt passed away… He was always [the] heart and the very essence of a ‘work family.'”
