IllFonic Restructures: Friday the 13th Studio Announces Workforce Reductions
Friday the 13th: The Game and Predator: Hunting Grounds creator IllFonic has disclosed an undisclosed number of layoffs, as it ‘realigns to a more focused strategy’.
IllFonic CEO and co-founder Charles Brungardt verified the job reductions in a statement shared on social media. “Today,” he stated, “we had to confront the difficult truth that the condition of the industry has impacted us here at IllFonic… It is with profound sadness that reductions to our teams were necessary as we adjusted to a more focused strategy.”
“There is an abundance of skill within the group,” Brungardt insisted, “and if you or your team is hiring, please reach out so we can connect individuals to available positions.”
IllFonic – which operates studios in Golden, Colorado and Tacoma, Washington – is likely best known for its asymmetrical multiplayer horror title Friday the 13th: The Game, which was removed from sale last December after the company lost its licensing rights.
The studio has since attempted to replicate that success with this year’s Killer Klowns from Outer Space: The Game, but its Steam concurrents have dropped from the hundreds to single digits in recent months, indicating that it has struggled to connect with gamers.
IllFonic has not disclosed the number of employees affected by today’s layoffs, but the news continues a challenging 2024 for the gaming sector. Approximately 14,000 employees are thought to have lost their jobs
