The new roguelike action-RPG Hyper Light Breaker is discounted to $23.39 until January 21 at Fanatical. This latest offering from acclaimed indie studio Heart Machine launched in early access on Steam today, January 14, marking an appealing beginning for eager players.
Purchasing Hyper Light Breaker through Fanatical provides you with an official Steam key, but Steam is also offering a launch promotion that includes Hyper Light Breaker along with a complimentary copy of the original game in the series, the Zelda-inspired action-adventure title Hyper Light Drifter, for $27 (previously $30). While Fanatical’s deal for Hyper Light Breaker does not include the additional Hyper Light Drifter key, it is definitely worth considering if you wish to save on the new game—especially if you already own Hyper Light Drifter.
According to the early access launch trailer, Hyper Light Breaker serves as a prequel to the events of Drifter. Players assume the role of Breakers, elite fighters commissioned with revitalizing civilization by venturing into an ever-evolving realm known as The Overgrowth and confronting the formidable Abyss King who rules it. Players can collaborate online in co-op mode, embarking on quests to explore, battle bosses, and gather loot—then return to upgrade the settlement with the resources obtained and venture back out into a new version of the Overgrowth.
Keep in mind that like all early access games, Hyper Light Breaker is not considered a finished title yet, and you may encounter some bugs and performance issues if you dive in now. Steam users have already reported a variety of issues with controls, customization options, combat, and more. Heart Machine is actively working to address performance issues and bugs as quickly as possible. As of 5:30 PM PT, Hyper Light Breaker has a “Mixed” rating on Steam based on approximately 600 reviews.
The initial early access version includes only a portion of the planned final content, with additional playable characters, bosses, types of equipment, and many more updates expected to roll out between now and the full release. The Steam page for Hyper Light Drifter indicates that the early access phase is anticipated to last around a year, although this is subject to change.
In addition to creating Hyper Light Drifter and Breaker, Heart Machine also released the 3D platformer Solar Ash. While the gameplay style is distinct from the Hyper Light series, Solar Ash retains many of the same striking elements and is worth checking out to see what else the team has produced. Fortunately, it is also available for purchase at Fanatical, where you can grab it for just $30.65 (down from $40).
Games bought through Fanatical are delivered immediately as official keys that can be redeemed on major gaming platforms (primarily Steam). All purchases from Fanatical also come with a 5% discount coupon that can be used on a future purchase.
If you’re looking to use that coupon, the retailer has various other promotions active right now, including customizable bundle deals like the January 2025 Diamond Collection featuring games like Adjust, Nickelodeon All Stars Brawl 2, and Saints Row Gold Edition for as low as $4.50 per title. Additionally, there’s the latest iteration of Fanatical’s Slayer Bundle filled with indie games for as low as $1.43 each, along with a customizable Monster Hunter Bundle comprising Monster Hunter World, Monster Hunter Rise, Monster Hunter Stories 2, and several DLC packs for as little as $3.12 each.
