The independent studio Human Computer has recently secured $5.7 million in initial funding.
The funding round was spearheaded by the venture firm Makers Fund. a16z along with former AirBnB COO Belinda Johnson contributed additional investment, elevating the total funding for the developer to $7.7 million. This marks yet another funding surge in the industry this week, following Pragma’s $12.75 million raise and a $150 million UA fund announced by Tilting Point.
Located in San Francisco, Human Computer was established in 2024 by creative director Alex Schleifer and gameplay supervisor Eliot Garcia Weisberg. Both previously collaborated at AirBnB and at Contemporary Entities, another indie studio Schliefer founded in 2020.
A “diverse portfolio” for Human Computer
According to the announcement, this new team boasts a “diverse portfolio of games” they are developing that “explore innovative gameplay mechanics for the next generation of consoles, PC, and mobile platforms.” Their first title is set to launch in Q4 2025.
“Instead of pursuing endless content or sprawling open worlds, we are dedicated to crafting concise, meaningful experiences that challenge creative limits,” the Human Computer website states. The announcement also references the use of “emerging technologies” though it does not clarify what these technologies are or how they intend to “enhance human creativity and facilitate new narrative forms.”

In the funding announcement, Schleifer described his studio’s future projects as “triple-I indie games that merge high production quality with efficient development that honors players’ time.”
