Hothead Games Closes Its Doors: A Farewell to a Beloved Studio
Studio declared insolvency after project collapse
The Vancouver-based studio Hothead Video Games has shut down operations.
Ian Wilkinson, the CEO and president of Hothead, announced the news on LinkedIn last Friday, disclosing that the studio ceased operations on December 13 after filing for insolvency.
“We had an incredible playable for an AAA project and had anticipated securing a deal to develop both mobile and console/PC versions of this game with various publishers,” Wilkinson expressed. “Unfortunately, it took much longer than we had hoped to finalize contracts for these versions of the game.”
“They were both set to close two weeks ago, but then the mobile publisher withdrew due to a change in direction. Two weeks later, the console publisher also pulled out. At that moment, our only remaining choice was bankruptcy.”
He further commented: “We hope this won’t be the last time you hear from us. We still have plans.”
