Helldivers Explores the Fascinating Concepts Behind Star Fox While Seeking Your Ideas for Their Next Adventure
Helldivers creator Arrowhead has expressed enthusiasm for unconventional and imaginative proposals, including a Star Fox-inspired game set within the Helldivers world.
In a New Year update on X, Arrowhead’s Chief Creative Officer and Helldivers 2 creative director, Johan Pilestedt, invited players to share their “hopes and dreams for what the next Arrowhead title might be,” suggesting he was “developing the overarching idea” for the studio’s upcoming release.
“We created a prototype in Unreal,” Pilestedt mentioned. “It would mainly aim to capture the essence of Star Fox. It feels arcade-like… yet subtly simulated.
“The name was ‘Eagles of Democracy.’
Pilestedt also revealed that the team had previously explored an idea for a top-down reimagining of the 1990 arcade game, Smash TV:
“Smash TV is a top-down reinterpretation of the iconic 1990 arcade game,” the proposal stated, reportedly composed about 12 years ago. “The game pits up to four players in a brutal game show setting in the distant future of 1999. This game draws inspiration from the classic Smash TV, crafting an experience filled with intense action, perilous traps, and gladiator-style game shows.
“The game pays tribute to 80s action films such as The Running Man, Total Recall, RoboCop, and Escape from New York, weaving everything together with cheesy tunes, ‘cool’ visuals, and exaggerated storytelling.”
