“Halo Infinite pioneered this, but few took notice”

Before the launch of Halo Infinite in 2021, Xbox enthusiasts were eagerly anticipating a new era of Halo multiplayer, particularly with its user-friendly aspects such as free-to-play online access and endless battle pass progression. Throughout the game’s lifecycle, Halo Infinite received a mixed reaction overall – however, that battle pass aspect is now being appreciated fondly after two major titles in 2024 have since adopted it.
The recently launched Marvel Rivals and Sony PlayStation’s Helldivers 2 have emerged as some of the top live-service games over the past year, both incorporating battle pass-like progression systems that lack a time limit. These two new entries have gained some attention online for this feature – with Xbox fans quickly reminding others that it was indeed Halo Infinite from 2021 that was the first to implement it.
