Renowned FromSoftware director and the genius behind Dark Souls, Hidetaka Miyazaki, emphasizes that the legendary studio still has intentions to expand its single-player-focused games similar to those that established its reputation, despite Elden Ring Nightreign and The Duskbloods venturing into the multiplayer domain.

Elden Ring Nightreign is, needless to say, an imminent cooperative twist on the studio’s expansive open-world adventure, allowing up to three players to fight foes, gather treasures, and strive to conquer a final boss before bringing their hard-earned rewards back to a base. It seemed like an unconventional trial from the studio and a legitimate reason to repurpose some Elden Ring assets.

However, attention shifted when news broke that The Duskbloods – the following game from the creator of Bloodborne, Dark Souls, Demon Souls, and Elden Ring – was also geared toward a multiplayer-focused PvPvE format, leading to the impression that online gaming was the company’s new modus operandi.

Creator’s Reveal on the Nintendo blog, Hidetaka Miyazaki clarifies that this is not the case. “As a side note, let me clarify one thing,” he states. “As previously mentioned, this is fundamentally an online multiplayer title, yet this does not imply that we as a company have chosen to transition to a more multiplayer-centric approach for future titles. The Nintendo Switch 2 version of Elden Ring has also been announced, and we remain committed to actively developing single-player-focused games like this that adhere to our more traditional style.”
