I have a weakness for a solid incremental game, but I must admit that I lack the patience to fully comprehend the endgame of something like Cookie Clicker. Therefore, I was immediately intrigued when I discovered Digseum, a $3 game focused on incrementals that is just under three hours long and has already received 98% positive reviews on Steam.
Digseum’s Steam page describes it as a “short and enjoyable experience” with approximately two-and-a-half hours of gameplay, during which players are “unearthing ancient artifacts and creating the best museum ever.” This marks the debut Steam release for developer Rat Monthly, and it appears that a high-quality game based on a relatively simple concept has paid off well.
As I compose this, Digseum has received 1,639 user reviews since its launch on December 9, with an impressive 98% positive feedback. According to Steam250’s rankings, it ranks as the third highest-rated Steam game over the last 30 days, surpassed only by the smash hit MiSide and Awaria, the latest free release from the developer of the cult classic Helltaker.
At just $3, I’ve already added Digseum to my library and I eagerly anticipate playing it during a leisurely morning. As a small-scale idle game with limited playtime, it reminds me a bit of Install Fee Millionaire – although that game had an additional twist by parodying the absurd Unity debacle of 2023 – and I would love to see indie developers continue to explore this concept.
