Free Personality Swap Alert: Change Your Monster Hunter Wilds Character Traits Before They’re Locked Behind a Paywall!
Monster Hunter Wilds is performing quite well, having broken the 1 million concurrent players mark on Steam. And for individuals who may not be aware, there is a significant number of gamers that have indeed returned to the character editor since realizing they created a hunter that resembles a potato with facial hair; you’ll be pleased to know you can alter your character once for free before Capcom requires payment.
The good news for anyone already regretting their character choices is that certain elements – such as hairstyles, makeup, and much more – can also be altered from your campsite or the menu without much hassle. However, more significant traits of your hunter – including gender, body shape, facial features, and so forth – typically cannot be modified after approving your designs at the outset unless you are willing to pay real money. The same applies to your Palico.
Evidently, the requirement to pay anything at all to adjust your character’s primary features is not something Capcom should be commended for, but it is a position the company has held since Monster Hunter World adorned the series with DLC – thus, it seems there are no plans for a change in this policy anytime soon. However, in Wilds, the developer does at least allow you to alter both your hunter and Palico once for free, although the somewhat complicated process means that it is not immediately clear.
Significant character alterations can, somewhat counterintuitively, be made only from Wilds’ menu after the title screen, and only if you possess a Persona Edit Voucher or Palico Edit Voucher linked to your account. These vouchers must be purchased as DLC – with a set of three Persona Edit Vouchers or three Palico Edit Vouchers priced at £5.79 on Steam.
Don’t rush to spend any money just yet, though. Capcom has also introduced a ‘Persona Edit Voucher: Single Voucher (Free Trial Version),’ along with a similar voucher for the Palico, which you can download at no additional charge – but only once for each – then use to access the character editor from the main menu. And for those curious, yes, I did almost pay for a change to my drab looking Palico after forgetting the free voucher was an option – which is why I’ve now written five paragraphs about something you might already be aware of.
In any case, that’s the situation. The launch of Monster Hunter Wilds has been quite significant for Capcom (so I suspect there are more than a few players out there experiencing a silent case of facial regret already), but there have been some valid performance complaints from players as well. Digital Foundry described the game as “undercooked” on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S (the PS5 Official version performed better), and it has also released a
