“Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles Exits iOS Amidst Unresolvable Glitch”
The iOS remaster of Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles has been removed, and Square Enix is discontinuing support for the four-year-old re-release.
On its blog, the developer disclosed a flaw that prevents users from accessing in-game content they had previously purchased. This issue, identified in January and affecting the game’s paid version, stemmed from “changes made to the in-app purchasing system.”
“Further investigation revealed that we are unable to completely resolve the issue and implement the necessary changes, making it improbable to resume service for the game,” stated Square Enix. The developer mentioned it would continue to support the game “on other platforms”; its Android, PlayStation 4, and Nintendo Switch editions can still be purchased digitally.
Square’s latest financial report indicated that its mobile and PC browser titles suffered a decline in revenue and operating income for the third quarter of 2024-2025 and the previous fiscal year, partially due to many of them being shut down. The developer has discontinued several mobile games in recent years, which was primarily attributed to low player engagement rather than a game-breaking error.
Players affected by the Crystal Chronicles issue are eligible for refunds from Apple Support. However, this only applies to those who purchased the full game or specific in-game items within the app by “January 2024 or later.” The complete details can be found here.
