Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth Receives Steam Deck Verification Ahead of PC Debut, Enabling Play Anywhere You Like
Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth has officially received Steam Deck verification ahead of its PC launch on January 23, setting the stage for immensely lengthy JRPG sessions on the toilet.
Before you accuse me of indulging in lowbrow restroom humor, as if this is the first or last time I will ever resort to that, Square Enix did it first. Don’t believe me? Just check out the official news release where the publisher invites you to “play the critically acclaimed RPG on a train, on an airplane, wrapped up in bed, in the bathroom… wherever you’d like. It’s okay – we won’t judge.”
Anyway, according to Valve, there are four tiers of Steam Deck compatibility for games: Unknown, Unsupported, Playable (which means they function but may not work optimally), and Verified. Verified titles support the Deck’s native resolution, offer full system compatibility, do not have any compatibility warnings or navigational issues with controllers, and feature complete controller support. They also utilize the correct controller input icons and automatically fill the on-screen keyboard when required. To put it simply, a game marked as Steam Deck verified will work just as well on the Deck as it does on its original platform.

Alongside the Steam Deck announcement, a new Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth PC trailer has been released, showcasing various PC-exclusive features including enhanced lighting and visuals, DLSS performance, numerous graphics options, and support for mouse-and-keyboard controls. I’m not an avid PC gamer, but it certainly looks impressive. If I owned a Steam Deck, I could easily enjoy Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth on it… while in the bathroom. Square Enix said I could!
