PUBG creator Brendan Greene’s “ambitious” three-game initiative will soon commence with the release of Prologue: Go Wayback! in “Q2” this year. In anticipation of the survival game’s launch, Greene’s studio, PlayerUnknown Productions, has unveiled an exciting trailer.

For some background, Greene introduced his studio’s three-game plan last December, detailing that each project would build upon the last, culminating in a project referred to as Project Artemis. This journey began with last year’s early access release of Prologue: Undiscovered World – not one of Greene’s planned three games, but rather an “immersive tech demo” allowing players to explore an Earth-scale environment created by machine learning agents in real-time.

With that project now available, the stakes are being raised with the arrival of Prologue: Go Wayback!. This iteration expands on last year’s tech demo by incorporating additional classic survival game elements into a landscape generated by machine learning—creating “millions” of maps and presenting what is described as a self-sufficient “single-player open-world emergent game in the survival genre.”

Go Wayback! promises an environment where “emergent systems subtly affect gameplay,” with players facing unpredictable weather patterns and constantly shifting landscapes as they strive to succeed in the Wilderness Survival and seek help to escape the wilderness. To achieve this, they will start with a basic, worn-down design and essential tools, utilizing resources, foraging for sustenance, conducting repairs, and constructing shelters to enhance their survival chances.

“No one will guide you on where to go or how to survive,” states the description on Steam. “There are no supportive mechanics, no predetermined paths, and no assurances. It’s a realm where preparation is crucial, and improvisation frequently determines the difference between life and death.” This summarizes the information revealed thus far, but Prologue: Go Wayback!’s initial trailer, which you can also view above, provides an insight into how it will unfold.
