Exploring New Depths: Daredevil’s Ultimate Sacrifice in Born Again
Daredevil: Born Again producer Brad Winderbaum asserts that enthusiasts can set aside a query to explore a completely new facet of Matt Murdock.
“You know, there’s an element of Matt in the comics where, and it is in the original series as well, that he is a highly principled character, yet he is also a character who engages in considerable violence,” Winderbaum tells GamesRadar+. “I believe he perceives violence as a form of sacrifice. He is aware that he might be condemning himself to eternal damnation each time he inflicts harm on someone.”
The forthcoming series acts as an unofficial fourth season to Netflix’s pre-MCU Daredevil show, featuring fan-favorite characters Foggy (Elden Henson) and Karen (Deborah Ann Woll) assisting throughout the journey. Born Again was originally envisioned as more of a straightforward procedural, primarily focusing on Matt Murdock’s experiences as a lawyer – with some Daredevil elements integrated. Star Charlie Cox mentioned that Marvel briefly contemplated “reinventing everything, to determine if Matt would be a somewhat different individual.” According to Winderbaum, he remains the same anxious vigilante we know and love – but things are about to become more intense.
“He is ready to sacrifice his own immortal soul because he exists in a brutal world that harms ordinary, innocent people. And that’s a sacrifice he makes willingly, but he is also a very fervent character, which is sometimes the origin of the violence. There’s an aspect of Matt – it manifests on screen in various ways.”
The new series also introduces comic book character Heather Glenn, a writer with her own troubled past: “I think one of my favorite parts of this season is his relationship with Heather Glenn.”
