“Exciting Revamp: Yooka-Replaylee Trailer Unveils Rextro’s Enhanced Minigame Arcade!”

This platformer has some serious appeal

Last month, Playtonic revealed our initial safe glimpse at Yooka-Replaylee‘s Shovel Knight in all his enhanced splendor, and today, the studio is focusing on another character to highlight its delightful visuals.

The charming dinosaur Rextro is the focal point of the latest trailer, with the stunning footage showcasing his upgraded arcade platforming minigames.

Fans of the original Yooka-Laylee will likely recognize these minigames as a fun nod to classic arcade gaming (complete with challenging gameplay) yet not overly distracting to the player. However, the ‘Replaylee’ version has undergone a complete transformation.

Instead of simply replicating classic titles, the ‘Rextro Bytes Help’ arcades will have you playing as the angular dinosaur himself. These platforming segments seem to revolve around solving puzzles, defeating foes, and making it from point A to point B intact by utilizing Rextro’s clever skillset and abilities — including a rather inconvenient extending neck.

Completing Rextro’s challenges will earn you medals, which can be traded for Pagies to keep the collection ongoing — so watch out, completionists.

While the anticipated remaster hasn’t been officially verified for Switch 2 just yet, Playtonic is strongly insinuating it. A few curious eyes appeared on top of a mysterious ‘Nintendo’ symbol in an early trailer, and the official website indicates that the game will be available on “PS5, Xbox Series consoles and… Nintendo? (Ooh intriguing. We’ll provide more details as soon as we can!)” Feel free to consider us skeptical, but that sure sounds like a confirmation waiting to unfold.

The beloved Yooka-Laylee was a delightful slice of nostalgic 3D platforming, although comparisons to Banjo-Kazooie inevitably highlighted its shortcomings.
