“Exciting News: A New Chapter for Okami from Capcom and Hideki Kamiya’s Clover Studio”

A continuation of Okami is currently in development, thanks to a collaboration between Capcom and Hideki Kamiya’s original studio, Clovers.

The announcement of the sequel was made during this evening’s Game Awards, accompanied by a captivating teaser trailer. “An Okami sequel project is in progress,” states the brief description. “Okami is a game praised for its distinctive universe, touching narrative, and thrilling escapades. Now, a fresh adventure akin to Okami has begun.”

You can check out the teaser for Okami’s sequel below, although it is still some time away from release. “It will be a while before we see you again, but we genuinely hope you anticipate this project,” mentions Capcom’s website regarding the Okami sequel.

Clovers, with an ‘s’, should not be mistaken for Clover, the studio that developed Okami and where Kamiya was a member. This earlier studio unfortunately closed shortly after Okami’s release. Earlier this year, Kamiya expressed that Okami was a “significant failure” regarding its initial sales, and if it had been more successful, Clover “might have likely continued”. Fortunately, however, the studio seems to be experiencing a slight revival with Clovers. Numerous original staff members from Okami are returning for the sequel, which is also being developed in collaboration with M-TWO Inc. and Machine Head Works Inc.

Following its initial release in 2006, Okami was remade for the Wii with motion controls before an HD version was introduced. We were highly complimentary of this edition upon its launch.
