Optimistically, there are numerous models available to distribute
While uninspired console launches can be dull, it has become increasingly challenging in recent years to secure certain systems at launch. The Sony PlayStation 5 faced significant hurdles stemming from the pandemic, so what can we expect for Nintendo’s upcoming Switch successor after all this time?
Bloomberg has issued a brand new report regarding the anticipated shipment figures for the Switch 2 during its initial year, and according to Robin Zhu, an analyst at Sanford C. Bernstein, Nintendo’s supply chain is set to deliver over 20 million units in 2025.
In contrast, the original Switch sold approximately 15 million units in its first year, but the release of the Switch 2 will occur nearly a decade later. During the early days of the Switch, the company was still recovering from the troubled Wii U era while also prolonging the life of its 3DS just in case.
With the Switch having established itself (selling over 146 million units worldwide), there appears to be considerably more confidence within Nintendo regarding the successor to the device. If Bloomberg’s figures are accurate, we can hope to worry less about acquiring these new hybrid models once the release date is announced and pre-orders go live.
Clearly, one aspect we do not yet know is the price of the Switch 2—this is likely to be a significant factor for many fans. Various price estimates and forecasts have already surfaced based on the rumored specifications of Nintendo’s new hardware, so we hope the upcoming presentation will clarify this.
