“Exciting Developments: A New Dungeons & Dragons Series in the Works from the Visionary Behind Deadpool”
Whether we will ever receive a sequel to the current cult classic Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves is uncertain, yet there could still be optimism for an alternative live-action D&D adaptation, as Netflix is allegedly producing its own series based on the tabletop RPG.
Netflix is now working on a live-action Dungeons & Dragons series titled The Forgotten Realms with Shawn Levy, the director of Deadpool and Wolverine and several episodes of Stranger Things, in collaboration with Drew Crevello, who penned the pilot and functions as showrunner. None of this information has been officially verified, but it’s been reported by Deadline and confirmed by Variety.
The Deadline article indicates that this series was initially under development for Paramount+, and would have involved Paramount Pictures, which also produced Honor Among Thieves. What that version of the series might have looked like is still unclear, but according to Deadline, now that it is at Netflix, it represents “an entirely new concept” completely independent of the 2023 movie.
Dungeons & Dragons is not strictly associated with any specific setting or narrative; instead, it allows players to either create their own worlds or use one of various official campaign settings. Among these realms, the Forgotten Realms—which provides the name for this series—is the most recognized and serves as the backdrop for a considerable amount of related media, including both Honor Among Thieves and the acclaimed RPG Baldur’s Gate 3.
