Europe’s Sporting Goods Market Sees 1% Growth in 2024
EA Sports FC 25 dominated the sales charts, followed closely by Call of Duty: Black Ops 6
EA Sports FC 25 emerged as the best-selling game in Europe for 2024, even though it experienced a 5% decline compared to its predecessor FC 24 in 2023.
This information comes from GSD data shared with VGC, which reported a 1% increase in overall PC and console game sales last year, totaling 188.1 million units sold across the continent.
When we break down the numbers, 131.6 million games were sold digitally, representing a 15% increase over the previous year. In contrast, physical sales saw a drop of 22%, with 56.5 million titles sold in brick-and-mortar stores.
Returning to the sales rankings, Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 was the second-best-selling game in 2024, despite being released towards the end of the year. It achieved 9% more sales than Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 at its launch in 2023.
Helldivers 2 stood out as the top new release in 2024, landing at No.6. Overall, new releases accounted for 27% of sold titles, compared to 34% the previous year.
In other notable developments, sales of Fallout 4 surged by 183%, reaching No.19, largely due to Amazon’s Fallout adaptation and promotional discounts.
On the hardware front, total console sales dipped by 21%. Each platform faced a decline, with Xbox Series X|S experiencing the largest drop at 48%.
The PlayStation 5 remained the top-selling console, although its sales fell by 20%. The Nintendo Switch also saw a 15% decrease, despite being in a strong position.
