Eternal Strands: The Highly Anticipated Action-RPG from Dragon Age’s Mike Laidlaw Set to Launch in Early 2025
Available on PS5, Series X/S, PC, and Game Pass.
Eternal Strands, the narrative action-RPG developed by former Dragon Age creative director Mike Laidlaw’s studio, Yellow Brick Games, has an official release date – it is set to launch on Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 5, PC, and Game Pass on January 28th next year.
The game chronicles the journey of Brynn, a member of an increasingly rare group of magic practitioners known as the Weavers. She embarks on a quest across a fantasy realm devastated by a catastrophic magical event, seeking to unravel its secrets and revive her people’s cultural legacy.
In terms of gameplay, it resembles an action-RPG influenced by titles such as The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Shadow of the Colossus, with elements reminiscent of Monster Hunter included as well. The latter two games are evident in the formidable bosses that inhabit the “open zone” world of Eternal Strands – towering 25-meter-high creatures known as the Arks. Players can defeat these giants to collect resources necessary for crafting new weapons and armor enhancements at a central camp.
Regarding the Zelda influences, they manifest in the interplay between Brynn’s magical powers and her surroundings. Abilities are centered around fire, ice, and telekinetic force, which can be further enhanced by the changing temperatures due to the environment’s volatile climate. “Heat spreads, cold chills, and real-time destruction allows for unprecedented reactivity in combat,” states the description on Steam. “Create [ice] bridges, incinerate barriers, or catapult Brynn across the terrain. The next-generation physics system fosters and rewards player creativity in exploration as much as combat.” Plus, every surface is climbable.
When Eternal Strands releases on January 28th next year, it will be readily available for Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 5, and PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store.
