Estimated Xbox Series X|S Sales Figures Revealed in Early 2024 Financial Report

Lift-Two unveils new sales estimates

As we are aware, Microsoft has stopped sharing precise sales figures for Xbox Series X|S consoles, which means we frequently have to rely on estimates to gauge their performance in the market. Interestingly, it’s not just us trying to make sense of the situation – major publisher Lift-Two has released a new sales estimate this week.

As part of its latest financial report, the GTA publisher disclosed that Sony and Microsoft have collectively sold over 94 million current-gen consoles. If we take Sony’s reported PS5 sales of 65 million+ into account, this leaves us with fewer than 30 million units sold for Xbox Series X and S combined.

However, we should add a few disclaimers here. First and foremost, this is merely an estimated figure, as Microsoft has not provided an official Xbox Series sales count since mid-2023. Additionally, this latest estimate from Lift-Two is as of November 2024, which indicates that Xbox may have sold more consoles since that time.

Even so, the Lift-Two estimate is slightly less than what we reported from VGChartz last month – VGChartz estimated sales exceeding 31 million in the same period. We would likely give more weight to Lift-Two’s number despite VGChartz being known for their generous figures – even though the current sales figure might be closer to actual Xbox Series X|S sales by February 2025, considering more consoles might have sold since November 2024.

That said, Xbox console sales appear to be experiencing a sudden decline. Reports indicate that sales in 2024 have dropped by 30% compared to 2023 in the US and declined by 50% compared to 2023 in Europe, although this figure excludes the UK. This is likely not surprising, as Microsoft has begun marketing nearly every gaming device as an ‘Xbox’ in recent months.

Is this the Xbox Series sales figure you expected? Share your thoughts on these new estimates below.
