ESA launches Accessible Games Initiative to reinforce visibility of accessibility aspects
Developers such as Microsoft, Nintendo, and Ubisoft work to offer positive information regarding accessibility in gaming
The Entertainment Software Association (ESA) has revealed the launch of the Accessible Games Initiative.
Created by Electronic Arts, Google, Microsoft, Nintendo of America, Sony Interactive Entertainment, and Ubisoft, this initiative seeks to provide encouraging information about various accessibility features in games.
Entities such as Amazon Games, Riot Games, Square Enix, and Warner Bros. Games have since joined the effort.
The initiative has rolled out with 24 labels that can also be utilized by developers, covering accessibility features such as narrated menus, input remapping, joystick inversion, subtitle formats, and color selections. The comprehensive list of labels is also accessible through the Accessible Games Initiative website.
These labels were “created with insights and feedback gathered directly from players with disabilities, advocacy groups for accessibility, and game development teams,” the ESA stated.
The adoption of these labels is optional
