A delicate Name of Duty developer is crafting a game where dinosaurs battle each other wielding enormous swords, and it amassed 10,000 wishlists on its first day on Steam.

Dinoblade is the kind of video game that ignites my passion for gaming. Created by Jean Nguyen, who currently serves at Sucker Punch as a senior gameplay animator, the project initially started as a humorous concept after they shared a video of a Spinosaurus going wild with a Buster Sword, which led many to urge them to develop it into a full-fledged game.

The game’s Steam description depicts it as an action RPG that “takes place right after a significant occurrence that altered our understanding of dinosaurs.” Obviously, these creatures now wield massive swords.

“Embark on a quest as a young Spinosaurus capable of wielding a Great Sword, battling other dinosaurs armed with weapons to prevent extinction.” How can a dinosaur’s sword avert extinction? Perhaps by deflecting a meteorite. There might already be a game that allows players to parry a nuke.

Dinoblade is now available on Steam Wishlist! What began as simple animations for my demo reel has gained so much attention that I am now making a game out of it, so here we are. Dinoblade has been in development for just over a year now, and wishlisting this will be a huge help! Thank you all! pic.twitter.com/rDtjC6CiWGJanuary 14, 2025

A trailer for Dinoblade showcases the dynamic combos that various types of dinosaurs can execute within the game. It appears that you play as a Spinosaurus engaging in fierce combat against larger adversaries. One of them even possesses a giant scythe to slash you to pieces.

The combat style resembles that of Devil May Cry, with a dash of classic God of War added for good measure. Dinosaurs launch each other into the air and juggle their unfortunate opponents with sword strikes. Additionally, there are parries and counters, so the combat could delve quite deep throughout the game.

For now, it is available for wishlist on Steam, and everyone responding to Nguyen’s tweet has eagerly announced their intention to add it to their lists.
