This relaxed farming sim is honest a sleepy frog that idly grinds on your desktop all day

Laid-back farming simulators are incredibly popular right now. They’re everywhere. However, perhaps the most relaxed farming sim of all is one that doesn’t require you to farm. Or interact with others. Or do much of anything else, really. Allow me to introduce Ropuka’s Idle Island, the best $4/£3 I’ve spent in a long time.

Ropuka’s Idle Island is precisely what the name implies. Ropuka is a lethargic frog who resides on a grassy island. His home lazily sits on your desktop while you unwind, play other games, get lost in internet rabbit holes, binge anime, file taxes, or complete tasks. He’s even waving his green hand at me while I type these very words.

The game isn’t entirely automated, though. Ropuka needs to take frequent naps to recover his stamina when he’ll then collect grass, which serves as the game’s currency. You can use it to enhance his stamina bar, improve the efficiency of his naps, and raise the quality of the grass, just to name a few options. Alternatively, you can exchange greens for gold, which can then be traded for loot boxes containing random cosmetics, like a floral crown for our dear Ropuka, various trees for his island, and other delightful items. If you think about it too hard, all you’re doing is decorating his little cozy prison. 10-minute naps followed by 10 seconds of farming – what kind of life is that? But honestly, don’t overthink it, alright? It’s cuter that way.

I’ve never really been drawn to the numerous idle games that fill PC stores these days, but I am truly infatuated with Ropuka’s Idle Island. As someone whose attention span is practically non-existent—I struggle to complete more than an hour of work without getting distracted by something on the wall—this game is practically a lifesaver. Mentally, I tell myself that all I need to do is accomplish X amount of work or admin before I can afford the next upgrade for my little frog friend, which helps me stay on track. His chill lo-fi music is nice, too.

You can snag the little guy on Steam right now. Surprise, surprise: 98% of reviews are also positive.

For now, make sure you don’t miss a single exciting release with our upcoming games of 2025 and beyond release calendar.
