EA Unveils Expanded Library of Accessibility Patents to Foster Inclusive Gaming Experiences
23 recent patents include plugins for evaluating photosensitivity and advanced speech recognition technologies
Electronic Arts has introduced 23 new patents to its public collection of complimentary accessibility resources, including patents for plugins that assess photosensitivity, customized shimmer speech recognition, and generating expressive voice audio from text documents.
EA expressed that by offering these patents to developers across the sector, without any costs, it is continuing its commitment to inclusive gaming.
The company is also launching a plugin for Unreal Engine 5 that “allows in-engine utilization of EA’s photosensitivity assessment technology, IRIS, which was made open-source as part of last year’s pledge update.” The IRIS plugin assists developers in analyzing and recognizing frames that “may potentially affect players with photosensitivity” in real-time.
