Dynasty Warriors: Origins allows you to annihilate entire armies using various types of weapons. As you start off with just a standard sword, you will unlock additional gear as you progress further into the campaign. Here’s our guide on how to unlock all the weapons in Dynasty Warriors: Origins.
All unlockable weapons in Dynasty Warriors: Origins
At the time of this writing, we have identified 10 weapons in Dynasty Warriors: Origins. These include the Sword, Spear, Gauntlets, Wheels, Podao, Staff, Twin Pikes, Lance, Crescent Blade, and Halberd.
Our weapons guide for Dynasty Warriors: Origins is structured according to when we could acquire these weapons during our gameplay. We discuss the missions/battles where they are obtained, as well as key abilities that are necessary to utilize.
Sword weapon unlock and abilities
Acquisition: As stated earlier, the Sword is your initial weapon at the start of the campaign in Dynasty Warriors: Origins.
Core abilities: Infected Blade Rush is a fantastic first choice that propels the Warrior forward while striking foes. On the other hand, the Evasive Cut is a move that we found less favorable. While it can interrupt an enemy attack and deal damage, it also causes the Warrior to retreat a significant distance from the opponent.
Spear weapon unlock and abilities
Acquisition: Post-Battle of Guangyang (Chapter 1) – A brief cutscene occurs in the town immediately following the fight. You will then be instructed to acquire the Spear from a shop.
Core abilities: Both Wild Charge and Rising Dragon Vortex are effective for targeting enemies from a distance, either from ground level or during air combos. However, the standout ability is Piercing Vengeance, which allows you to maintain a defensive stance for an extended period to execute a counterattack when struck.
Gauntlets weapon unlock and abilities
Acquisition: Battle of Guangzong (Chapter 1) – We acquired the Gauntlets after defeating Zhou Cang during this stage.
Core abilities: A unique feature of the Gauntlets weapon in Dynasty Warriors: Origins is that you can activate a stance by tapping the heavy attack button, allowing you to unleash a flurry of punches and kicks. The most impressive ability we’ve seen so far is named Heaven and Earth’s Wrath, which lets the Warrior execute a powerful leaping powerbomb on an unfortunate enemy.
Wheels weapon unlock and abilities
Acquisition: Suppression of You Province (Chapter 2) – This represents the first encounter in Chapter 2. While we cannot verify definitively, we believe that this weapon may drop from either Zhang Ju or Qiliju.
Core abilities: The Wheels weapon (i.e., Chakram) is effective for both short and medium-range combat. Triple Tempest is a spinning attack that hits multiple foes, while Claw of the Predator and Flying Spirit Wave enable you to throw the weapon farther. Notably, you can toss Wheels that stick to walls and surfaces, causing damage to any enemy that approaches.
Podao weapon unlock and abilities
Acquisition: Subjugation of the White Wave Bandits (Chapter 2) – This particular fight presents a multitude of nameless officers clustered together, making it difficult to track which enemy drops the weapon.
Core abilities: The Podao is a two-handed weapon that can be a bit cumbersome to wield. However, one of the strongest abilities we’ve discovered so far is Sea of Flames, a special move that releases flames that travel along the ground. Because it is a special technique, it can also interrupt enemy casting, and its multiple hits can chip away at enemy defenses.
Staff weapon unlock and abilities
Acquisition: Assassination of Dong Zhuo (Chapter 2) – Similar to the Podao, the Staff drops from a specific officer in an area crowded with enemies. In this case, it’s in the southwestern chamber, where you’ll encounter Li Su, Xu Rong, Hu Fen, and others. And be sure to eliminate your foes quickly as Lu Bu might be pursuing you throughout the level.
Core abilities: What makes the Staff one of the most versatile weapons in Dynasty Warriors: Origins is that holding down the heavy attack button allows you to create longer combo chains while remaining agile. This includes jumping around while spinning your polearm and dashing through groups of enemies.
Twin Pikes weapon unlock and abilities
- Acquisition: Battle of Hulao
“`Gate (Chapter 2)
- A couple of minutes after the commencement of this chapter, Zhang Liao will charge allied forces. Defeat him to secure his legendary weapon.
- Key abilities: The Twin Pikes are a fully fearsome choice among the arms in the game. You may also unleash the potential of the components, such as Roaring Maelstrom’s whirlwinds that draw in soldiers and Earth Blast’s stalagmites that shoot up from the ground.
Lance weapon unlock and abilities
Situation: Battle of Xu Province (Chapter 3) – This conflict is a crucial moment in Chapter 3, as it determines whether you will ally with Cao Cao or Liu Bei. In our gameplay session, we allied with Cao Cao and faced off against several advancing generals. Interestingly, this weapon dropped from Mi Zhu. Regardless, you can discover more about this battle in our Chapter 3 choice guide (Cao Cao, Liu Bei, or Sun Jian).
Key abilities: We weren’t overly excited about using the Lance, at least until we acquired the Tenacious Heart ability. We believe it’s among the best defensive skills in the game. When activated, it renders you nearly invulnerable to all damage while also boosting health regeneration. The effect lasts for about 10 seconds, making it advantageous for higher difficulties.
Crescent Blade weapon unlock and abilities
Situation: Rescue of Emperor Xian (Chapter 3) – Progress further into the chapter until Jia Xu’s squad shows up. Defeat him to acquire this weapon. Note that we obtained this after siding with Cao Cao and becoming adversaries with Liu Bei in Chapter 3. As s
