Dramatic Police Operation at South Korean Studio Dynamis One Sparks Nexon Data Leak Concerns

The South Korean firm Dynamis One has been searched by local authorities following allegations of unlawfully exporting fashion materials belonging to Nexon.

According to local news source ChosunBiz, the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency’s Industrial Technology Security Investigation Unit conducted a raid at the studio’s main office on February 24, 2025.

It is alleged that investigators have gathered proof indicating Dynamis One unlawfully procured essential fashion materials related to a Nexon project codenamed ‘MX Blade’ with the intention of using that information to create future games.

Dynamis One was founded by a group of former Nexon Games employees in 2024. The studio’s CEO, Park Byeong-rim, previously managed the development of Nexon’s free-to-play RPG, Blue Archive.

Nexon has accused Byeong-rim of breaching the Unfair Competition Prevention Act and claims that several Dynamis One developers disclosed critical information about MX Blade during their time at the company.

Dynamis One revealed its first game, Project KV, last year but quickly ceased development due to controversy over alleged similarities with Blue Archive.

In a statement obtained by ChosunBiz, Nexon characterized the event as a “serious offense that jeopardizes the integrity of the game development industry.”

The developer behind MapleStory and Dave The Diver pledged to assist law enforcement throughout their investigation. They also announced intentions to enhance internal security measures to prevent a similar situation from occurring in the future.

Authorities are reportedly planning to determine whether the leaked information was actively used by Dynamis One’s development team.

Nexon was previously involved in a comparable situation. Back in 2021, the company accused Ironmace founder (and former employee) Ju-Hyun Choi of using leaked source code to create a project titled Dark and Darker.

Nexon filed a lawsuit against the studio in 2021 for alleged copyright and trade secret violations. Earlier this month, the Seoul Central District Court (Division 63) cleared Ironmace of copyright infringement but ordered the studio to pay 8.5 billion won ($5.87 million) in damages to Nexon for trade secret infringement.
