Developer Doekuramori has already put together a rugged college-inspired shooter where you take on the role of an anime girl reminiscent of a Doom Guy. However, one anime girl Doomer Shooter simply isn’t sufficient, so a sequel is currently in the works.

Beyond Citadel is the aptly titled follow-up to Fortress, the indie creator’s inaugural venture in this retro-inspired series, which evidently draws influence from the original Doom and other shooters of that era. The weapons are prominently displayed in the center of the screen, while enemies appear in sprite form, and your surroundings are rendered in 3D. The game retains the frantic shooting mechanics that established Doom as a household name, but this time features an anime protagonist at the forefront.

“Beyond Citadel is an anime-themed retro throwback shooter influenced by the classics of the 90s, featuring realistic gunplay mechanics, anime-style violence, and rapid-fire combat,” the game’s Steam description states. “Battle your way through the heavily fortified mechanical fortress and uncover the secrets that lie below.”
