Well, this is something we weren’t expecting in 2025. Arkane’s Xbox One game Dishonored 2 has just received a brand-new update—approximately 9 years after its initial release!
This has generated quite a bit of surprise (as well as some confusion) among the fanbase and the wider Xbox community. So, what exactly is happening here? Admittedly, it’s not as exciting as the “performance” update we all had wished for. You might be wondering, though—according to the PC patch notes on SteamDB, it appears the update pertains primarily to the “language depots.” On PlayStation’s patch notes for this game, this update is listed as “bug fixes.”
Even though the update shows up at around 40GB on Xbox (which is the game’s file size on this platform), the patch is thought to only require a download of approximately 230MB. Regrettably, it seems that this may be another one of those cases where you might need to update the entire game again. Here’s a glimpse at some posts discussing this latest update:
Arkane originally launched Dishonored 2 on the Xbox One and various other platforms in 2016, so once again, this new patch arrives nearly 9 years after the game was initially released! Over the years, fans have repeatedly requested—urging Arkane for an FPS boost. However, after looking into today’s update, it seems there is still no “60FPS” upgrade available.
As for the future of the Dishonored series, developer Arkane is currently focused on the Marvel’s Blade game. There have also been several leaks and rumors over the past few years hinting that Dishonored 3 might also be in development. If you wish to catch up on this series, it is currently available on Game Pass. Here’s a brief description from Xbox if you haven’t played this title yet:
