Naoki Hamaguchi, the director of Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, has urged PC players not to install any “offensive or inappropriate” mods upon the game’s release.

The PC launch of the game was officially announced during last week’s The Game Awards, set to release on January 23, 2025. This means it will be open to the modding community.

“While our team has no plans for official in-game mod support,” Hamaguchi mentioned to Epic Games, “we appreciate the creativity of the modding community and welcome their innovations – although we request that modders refrain from creating or installing anything offensive or inappropriate.”

When the previous game, Final Fantasy 7 Remake, launched, it became quite popular in the modding community – from VR mods to new outfits and even swapping Cloud’s iconic Buster Sword with those of other characters.

There’s no doubt that Rebirth will meet a similar fate – I’m looking forward to seeing the weapons replaced by Thomas the Tank Engine.

Hamaguchi’s remarks echo the sentiments expressed by Final Fantasy 16 producer Naoki Yoshida, who similarly urged fans not to create inappropriate mods for that title’s PC version. This might be asking for trouble, but since its launch in September, the strangest mods have simply involved adding Ben Starr’s meme face to Clive’s cape.

Hamaguchi also revealed to Epic that DLC was considered for the PC version “as an episodic narrative,” much like the Yuffie INTERmission DLC for Remake. However, due to limited resources, the team ultimately chose to prioritize completing the third game in the trilogy.

“However, if we receive strong feedback from players post-launch regarding specific topics, we would like to consider them,” Hamaguchi added.

Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth will feature enhanced lighting, and fans have been sharing comparisons on social media.

Now this is much easier to see the difference compared to the PS5 Pro
