A glitch in the previous beta for the Monster Hunter Wilds caused monsters to escape to new locations too frequently, Capcom has confirmed, and this issue will not be present in the final version of the game.
As reported by VGC, Monster Hunter Wilds director Yuya Tokuda addressed the beta during a recent press event. “The open beta was an early iteration that unfortunately included some bugs, one of which was the monsters moving more often than intended,” he stated.
“It wasn’t our initial design plan for them to be so frequently on the move; it was simply that at certain intervals, they would just shift positions, which wasn’t part of our design strategy. We have taken steps to correct that issue and we have received considerable feedback since the beta. Many improvements are underway for the final release, including how monsters determine their next moves and actions – that process is being refined for the complete game.”
I was in a different session during the same press event at Capcom’s Osaka, Japan headquarters, and as mentioned in my detailed hands-on preview of Monster Hunter Wilds, the altered monster behavior in the latest version stood out to me. Monsters fled noticeably less often than in the beta, allowing me to defeat most of them within just one or two locations.
At the time, I wasn’t certain if this was due to the maps featuring fewer large monsters or simply my equipment being more potent. Both factors likely contributed, but it turns out this was also due to a genuine bug fix, which is reassuring. My friends and I were quite frustrated by how often monsters fled in the beta, so it’s nice to have confirmation on this issue.
Monsters running away constantly ranks high on the list of significant improvements post-beta alongside notably improved weapon hitstop. Check out our Monster Hunter Wilds Major Preview hub for more essential details on this exciting RPG.
