The trend of job reductions within the gaming industry persists, as game developer Eidos Montreal–which is collaborating on the upcoming Fable–has revealed plans to eliminate 75 positions.
In a communication shared on social media, the studio indicated that it is reducing positions because “one of our mandates is coming to a conclusion.” The developer did not provide further details regarding this matter.
Nevertheless, the studio expressed regarding the affected employees, “This decision does not reflect their commitment or abilities, but unfortunately, we lack the resources to fully reassign them to our other active projects and services.”
Today, we informed our studio team that we will be letting go of up to 75 valued members, as one of our mandates is coming to an end. This is not a reflection of their commitment or skills, but sadly, we don’t have the capacity to fully reassign them (cont) pic.twitter.com/uzgWiHYnP8

Eidos Montreal added: “These exceptionally skilled, highly experienced professionals will enter the job market, and we are working to support them through this transition.”
The last title that Eidos Montreal released was 2021’s Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy. It is currently collaborating on the new Fable game with Playground Games. Eidos Montreal is also recognized for 2020’s Marvel’s Avengers, Shadow of the Tomb Raider (2018), Deus Ex: Mankind Divided (2016), and Thief (2014).
In 2024, it was reported that Eidos Montreal’s parent company, Embracer canceled an upcoming, unannounced Deus Ex game and implemented a round of layoffs at the Canadian studio. The layoffs affected 97 individuals. Including the 75 announced today, that brings the total to 172 job losses at Eidos Montreal across both rounds of downsizing.
Embracer acquired Eidos Montreal in 2022, at which time they took ownership of the game rights to Deus Ex, Tomb Raider
