It required ten years for Zombieland: Double Tap to debut, bringing together Jesse Eisenberg, Woody Harrelson, Emma Stone, and Abigail Breslin for another undead comedy-horror. Now, six years have passed since that moment, and director Ruben Fleischer is focusing on a third chapter, with a well-thought-out strategy in place.

“I’m optimistic that we’ll create a Zombieland 3 in 2029,” he informs Deadline. “We’re beginning discussions because [the first] release was 2009, and we produced the sequel in 2019, and we essentially concluded that one stating, ‘We’ll see you in 10 years.’ That time is approaching, so we’re starting to figure that out, and I’m hopeful that will materialize.”

By the conclusion of Double Tap, Wichita (Stone), Tallahassee (Harrelson), Columbus (Eisenberg), and Little Rock (Breslin) are back on the journey, along with a new member, Nevada, played by Rosario Dawson. With everyone still breathing, and their travels aimed at evading the undead, the opportunities remain as broad as for the previous film.

This is not the sole endeavor Fleischer has underway, nor is it the only horror-themed creation he aspires to pursue. Another project is a vampire-Western, termed “Unforgiven, if Clint Eastwood were a vampire,” which stands as a significant goal for the director.

“I sincerely wish to bring that to life. I’ve always wanted to create a gangster film and then a Western. So I’m hopeful to have the opportunity to craft a Western,” he states. A vampiric version of Unforgiven, followed by Zombieland 3, would be a fantastic way to conclude this decade, and a disturbingly fabulous one as well.

Now You See Me: Now You Don’t, directed by Fleischer, is currently showing in theaters. Check out our upcoming horror films guide to track all the great frights on the horizon.
