Zelda: A Link To The Past And Chrono Trigger Are “Ripe For Remakes”, Says Analytics Firm

The analytics company Ampere Analysis has shared a compilation of games it thinks would significantly gain from a remake or remaster (thanks, VGC). This is reportedly based on an analysis of the market along with consumer behaviors and perceptions – otherwise, we could easily select a list of games at random that we believe should receive remakes!

What immediately grabbed our attention was The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past and Chrono Trigger, both of which are deemed, according to Ampere, ideal candidates for complete remakes. Now, we would gladly advocate for Chrono Trigger; particularly if Square Enix opts for the HD-2D style it has been developing over recent years. A Link to the Past, however? Hmm, that one has us unsure.

The issue with top-down Zelda titles is that, in our view, they kind of need to remain top-down. And since the game has already had a sequel with A Link Between Worlds, we are not entirely convinced it truly requires a remake.

Ampere writer Katie Holt states that while dedicated fans regard it as a highlight in the series, “its dungeon and world design may seem outdated, and the storyline is somewhat linear by today’s criteria.” Additionally, searching for “The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past remake” on Reddit yields an impressive 48,200 results, and Nintendo would reportedly be wise to approach it similarly to the Switch remake of Link’s Awakening.

In other developments, Ampere believes that Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D would benefit from either a remake or a remaster – they are apparently indifferent on which. And yes, we could support this idea. With the 40th anniversary approaching, it wouldn’t surprise us to see Nintendo revisit what is arguably one of the most impactful 3D adventure titles ever created.
