NIS America has announced that Ys X: Proud Nordics is headed to Switch 2 and PC in early 2026 in the US. The publisher labels it the definitive version of the role-playing game, featuring an additional storyline, fresh mechanics, and an extra dungeon.
Ys X: Proud Nordics debuted on Switch 2 in Japan last month. The original title had its initial 2023 release in Japan, and then NIS America localized Ys X: Nordics for Western audiences in 2024 on PC, PS4, PS5, and Nintendo Switch. At this point, there’s no word on any upgrade route from the original to Ys X: Proud Nordics on either Switch 2 or PC. The new hybrid console has already offered paid upgrades alongside no-fee patches since it launched in June.
As always, Ys X centers on Adol Christin—the franchise’s steadfast hero—this time partnered with the seafarer Karja. According to a press release, the pair confront “the growing menace of an immortal army dubbed the Griegr.” Their vessel, the Sandras, becomes home to a loyal crew of comrades as the two adventurers clash with the Griegr on a memorable voyage.
Interestingly, Ys X unfolds shortly after Ys II and introduces ship-to-ship combat—something new to the series. Newcomers can jump in without worry; the narrative is completely self-contained. Beyond Switch 2, Ys X: Proud Nordics will be available on three PC platforms: Steam, the Epic Games Store, and GOG.
If waiting until 2026 feels too long, the earlier Ys X: Nordics is currently discounted—down to $30 on PS5 and $35 on Switch.
