Before the Switch 2’s debut in June, you can reserve one of the finest titles in the Yakuza franchise for the upcoming Nintendo console. You can snag Yakuza 0: Director’s Cut for only $50, allowing you to immerse yourself in an excellent narrative and intense combat, plus some fresh content for this edition. This release will be a limited-time exclusive for the Switch 2, meaning PC and console users will have to wait before it’s available to them.
Yakuza 0: Director’s Cut
$50 | Launches June 5
Yakuza 0: Director’s Cut encompasses all the action and intrigue from the original title, alongside new scenes crafted specifically for this version and an entirely new English voiceover. Additionally, players can engage in online co-op skirmishes via the Red Light Raid mode, partnering with gamers worldwide to combat the notorious underbelly of the game’s infamous locales.
It’s important to mention that this release is a Game-Key Card edition. In essence, it means you will need to download Yakuza 0 onto your Switch 2 and the cartridge will serve as a verification tool. Game-Key cards are not linked to your Nintendo account, so if you decide to part with the game later, it will function just fine on another Switch 2 console. Initially, an internet connection is required for booting up a Game-Key Card for the first time, afterward, the title can be played offline.
If you haven’t experienced Yakuza 0, you have missed out on one of Sega’s finest offerings. Set in the prosperous Japan of 1988, this game serves as the origin tale for iconic Yakuza figures Kiryu Kazuma and Goro Majima, illustrating how they evolved into the renowned legends known as the Dragon of Dojima and the Mad Dog of Shimano, respectively. At its essence, Yakuza 0 is a 3D beat-’em-up that prioritizes narrative, weaving major plot points that unfold like episodes of a crime drama.
The game is also brimming with activities, boasting side stories to delve into between missions and a variety of mini-games to enjoy. Kiryu even has a side venture in real estate in Kamurocho, while Goro corresponds with a cabaret club in Sotenbori. Each of these modes is surprisingly detailed, to the extent that either could stand alone as a game.
Yakuza 0: Director’s Cut is part of a collection of Sega-published titles set for release on the Switch 2. If you successfully reserved a console and wish to get additional games, consider adding Puyo Puyo Tetris 2S, Sonic X Shadow Generations, and Raidou Remastered to your collection.
