Oblivion Remastered is certainly the hot topic at the moment, although the remarkable Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 is also garnering substantial recognition. Bethesda and Xbox took to social networks to announce the remaster’s latest achievement: four million players within just three days after its release.

“We are extremely thankful to the more than 4 million of you who have explored Cyrodiil with Oblivion Remastered,” shared a post from Bethesda on Twitter and Bluesky. “Thank you!”

In response, Xbox offered a virtual handshake and congratulated a nod to the much-discussed cheese wheels from the Elder Scrolls series: “That’s a lot of cheese wheels in pockets. Huge congrats.”

That’s a lot of cheese wheels in pockets. Huge congrats 💚April 25, 2025

It’s worth reflecting on how well this remaster has performed by nearly every measure, but it’s important to point out that its overwhelming influence has adversely affected some smaller developers caught off guard by its sudden release.

Oblivion Remastered has received widespread praise from critics and gamers since its debut on April 22, it’s topping the Steam charts, and it’s now evident that it’s selling like hotcakes (albeit cheese-flavored).

This success was not guaranteed. We’ve witnessed enough failed remakes, remasters, and adaptations of beloved titles to understand that Oblivion: Remastered was not a certain triumph for Xbox and Bethesda. However, after years of meticulous planning, incorporating valuable quality of life enhancements without altering the game’s inherent character, and releasing it in top condition across all platforms created a surefire path to success. Who would have guessed?

Well done, Todd: You can see Skyrim, or at least its highest peak, from the boundary of Oblivion Remastered.
