Helldivers 2 enthusiasts are hoping for an official Halo partnership, but not everyone is aligned in this galactic conflict.
Helldivers 2 will arrive on Xbox Series X|S on August 26 – PlayStation appears to be making a clever swap with its fellow sci-fi shooter Gears of War, whose remaster is releasing on PS5 on that same date – thus, divers seized the chance to yearn for a Halo integration in the game. After all, Helldivers 2 has already incorporated a warbond themed after Killzone, establishing a precedent for collaborations.
This week, divers flocked to the game’s main subreddit to express their wildest aspirations. Some even crafted mock-ups for a potential warbond featuring ODST (who are essentially helldivers in principle) armor, energy sword weapons, and a poncho designed after Master Chief’s treks through the desert.

However, there were numerous dissenters as well. This is quite understandable. In a game where players control somewhat delicate, ragdolling soldiers facing insurmountable challenges, no one wishes to appear as the immense Master Chief, who is canonically the universe’s supreme weapon.
One specific post reminded individuals that Arrowhead’s leader Johan Pilestedt had actually dispelled those anxieties months prior. In a Discord message, Pilestedt essentially suggested that anything beyond Warhammer 40K grunts was likely off-limits, including the Master Chief and Doom Guy, while Starship Troopers and ODSTs were absolutely permissible.
For those unfamiliar with Halo, ODSTs (orbital drop shock troopers) are soldiers who are still impressively courageous enough to combat aliens several times their size, but they aren’t genetically modified like Spartans. This aligns them more closely with Helldivers – they also deploy from the sky in small pods. See, it fits perfectly.
