By With the third installment in the series, TRON: Ares, premiering in theaters on 10 October, this is the perfect moment to reflect on both its forerunners, which have recently launched on 4K Ultra HD.
In the iconic 1982 original TRON, Jeff Bridges’s coder Kevin Flynn is transported into a digital universe and compelled to participate in his own Light Cycle game while he contends with the despotic Master Control Program. After twenty-eight years, TRON: Legacy broadened the narrative, as Flynn’s offspring Sam finds himself in virtual reality to assist his estranged father in halting a sinister program known as Clu that invades our actual world – all accompanied by a Daft Punk soundtrack.
Both films offer a range of supplementary features. For TRON, these include a commentary, a Making Of, scenes cut from the final edit, a delve into the concept art within the Disney archives, and an exploration of the film’s influence on pop culture. For TRON: Legacy, offerings include a short film that connects the two pictures, four featurettes, and a music video.
