In a captivating initiative from The Pokémon Company, the entertainment titan has announced Pokécology, an official publication dedicated to the behaviors of these imaginary beings.

As reported by Automaton Media, Pokécology is set to be launched in Japan on June 18, 2025, by the publishing house Shogakukan, with no confirmed release for Western audiences at this moment. The highlight of this book is that it has been crafted by two PhD graduates specializing in veterinary behavior and ecology from the University of Tokyo. Therefore, it serves as a genuine scientific publication on fictional beings.

The publication is authored by Yoshinari Yonehara, who has previously collaborated with the company on titles like Pokémon Legends: Arceus and Scarlet & Violet. The artwork is provided by Chihiro Kinoshita, recognized for her diverse range of children’s illustrations centered on animal ecology.

Currently, we only have the logo, which is adorable, but pre-orders from retailers like Amazon Japan, Rakuten, and HMV indicate a price of approximately ¥1,430—equivalent to just over USD $10.

Rather than concentrating on Pokémon statistics and battle skills, Pokécology will examine topics like sleep habits, favorite foods, migration behaviors, and more. It sounds like an ideal companion for New Pokémon Snap.

Moreover, it is designed to be presented in an accessible manner, which may spark your children’s interest in animal sciences, ecology, and biology.

While we realize translation efforts may be extensive, we would truly love to see this published officially in the West. For now, we’ll keep our hopes high as we aim to become Pokémon specialists. It would be fantastic to unveil this ahead of the upcoming Pokémon game release, Legends: Z-A.
