Viral Horror Co-op Game Is The Latest Victim Of Shameless eShop Scam
Fans of horror on PC have been enthusiastically discussing R.E.P.O., created by the Swedish team semiwork. This cooperative online game launched in February 2025, where you and up to five companions must collaborate to unearth an ancient era of humanity. You’ll need to navigate between stealth and caution amidst chaos and comedy as pandemonium unfolds. It gained significant popularity upon its early access release, and rightfully so.
So, if you’re exploring the Switch eShop and encounter something that appears strikingly similar, a word of caution: avoid purchasing it. On the NintendoSwitch subreddit, one user is alerting fans about a “complete counterfeit” game titled “REPO Horror“, and the proof is quite compelling, as Gamesradar and PC Gamer have reported.
The user found this game while navigating the eShop and purchased it, believing it was associated with the legitimate Steam title. At first sight, it undoubtedly resembles the original — the logo is strikingly familiar, and the images showcase similar dim lighting and character styles as the authentic R.E.P.O.
It was only during gameplay that they discovered something was amiss: “Upon closer examination, it seemed off—very poor quality and nothing like the official game I anticipated, especially since it wasn’t published by Semiwork.”
This scenario appears to echo the predicament faced by the creators of The Backrooms 1998, another PC horror that actually became available on Switch earlier this year. R.E.P.O. is not present on Switch whatsoever right now, and it seems the publisher of this fraudulent version has essentially copied the much-discussed game.
Thankfully, the reddit user has reached out to Nintendo Support and confirmed that “they’re escalating the matter to their senior admins.” We really hope this type of behavior ceases, as it harms the original game creators and deceives consumers who are unaware they’re being swindled.
Digging deeper, “REPO Horror” is published by BoggySoft, which is also responsible for bringing another dubious title to the eShop: Only Up!, which seems to mimic a similarly named game, OnlyUP! — which debuted back in 2023.
Incredibly, to top it all off, BoggySoft appears sufficiently assured that the game will also be available on Switch 2, as it lists the file size for both Switch 1 and Switch 2 releases. Hmmm. We have a strong feeling that won’t transpire…
