“Video Game Industry Faces Layoffs Following Funko Fusion’s Disappointing Performance”
Funko Fusion developer 10:10 Video Games has apparently terminated a number of employees.
Confidential sources communicating with Insider Gaming lament that the UK studio placed 19 positions at risk after labeling Funko Fusion a “total commercial and critical failure.”
Moreover, it is claimed that the studio has faced challenges in securing financing for upcoming endeavors.
Sources indicated that the reductions were “entirely dependent on the requirements of the next project,” but said that no senior personnel or management team members were affected.
10:10 Video Games is also accused of inadequately supporting staff throughout the process. The studio allegedly informed some employees of their layoff while they were on leave and offered severance packages that met only “the basic legal minimum” standards.
“Management appeared very eager to conclude the process swiftly, and despite claiming they were fully receptive to suggestions and feedback, none of it has been acknowledged,” remarked one source.
10:10 Video Games was established in 2021 by a group of industry veterans from TT Games. Last year, 10:10 Video Games’ head of publishing, Arthur Parsons, criticized the perceived lack of support for new studios in the UK in an interview with Game Developer.
“As an industry, we are not operating sustainably,” he expressed. “It would be beneficial to have more grants and incentives. We’ve had to undertake a lot of initiatives independently, using our own funds.”
Internally, Parsons reportedly informed the team that the studio–which claims to prioritize “our people and culture first” on its LinkedIn profile–would take responsibility for the layoffs, but the company has yet to officially comment on the matter.
Game Developer has contacted 10:10 Video Games for additional information.
