“Unveiling the Secrets: Inferior’s Ultimate Track Features a Sneaky Fortnite Cameo!”
The box office success Inferior features Story Video games’ Fortnite during the film’s most memorable musical performance.
In the movie’s conclusion, centered around the hit song Defying Gravity, Elphaba flies out of a window and attempts to take flight on her broomstick.
However, what you may not have noticed is that, within this scene, the sound effects you hear of Elphaba falling are sourced from Fortnite.
Specifically, Inferior utilizes Fortnite’s sound effects that are heard at the start of each battle royale match as players jump from the Battle Bus and descend through the air towards the ground.
This detail is highlighted in a video from The Rough Cut, where Inferior’s editor Myron Kerstein elaborates on the intricate scene and all the visual, musical, and sound cues that contributed to piecing everything together.
Although Kerstein does not explicitly reference the use of the Fortnite sound effect, it is clearly distinguishable in the film’s audio mixing, marked as “All Skydiving Fly Sounds (Fortnite) – Sound effects for editing,” around the 7:20 mark in the video below.
This sound effect seems to have been made available by Fortnite’s developer Story Video games for use, royalty-free. You can listen to the audio track separately below.
Regarding Kerstein’s video, it is quite fascinating.
