Unity has allegedly carried out yet another round of job cuts.

According to several reports from Unity employees, the personnel in the visual machine department has been significantly reduced, including both designers and artists.

In an email reportedly sent to Unity staff, which was observed by 80.lv, CRO Matthew Bromberg informed the team that the “major organizational changes” mainly affected “the CTO, Engine Product, and Ads teams,” and were “a reaction to decisions [Unity was] making about what direction Unity will pursue in the future.”

At this moment, it remains unclear how many individuals were affected by these layoffs.

“Employees whose positions are being terminated or who are entering an employment consultation period will be informed in the next few days, along with guidance on the subsequent steps. We anticipate all notifications to be completed by the end of the day on February 12,” Bromberg included.

City Hall meetings discussing Unity’s future plans are scheduled in Montreal, Tel Aviv, Copenhagen, Seoul, Tokyo, and San Francisco, with the most significant web conference occurring the following day, February 12, in Montreal.

Given the global workforce operating across different time zones, impacted employees were notified simultaneously, leading to some workers on the West Coast receiving the news about their layoffs at 5 am.

“I was affected by the layoffs at Unity today, along with many skilled and dedicated colleagues. While this news is difficult, I am extremely thankful for the nearly three years I’ve spent at the company – collaborating with talented artists and engineers, having the chance to enhance my graphics programming and Houdini abilities, and building lasting friendships that go beyond just work,” senior technical artist Peter Row posted on LinkedIn.

“However, I must address how Unity communicated these layoffs. Receiving a 5 am email from ‘noreply@unity’ notifying me that my position was ‘eliminated’ and that I would lose system access by the end of the day felt entirely sudden and impersonal. Unity needs to improve the way they treat their employees during challenging times like this.”
